Debate Fundamentals 1

Debate fundamentals is a course designed to introduce G6-12 students basic debate and speaking skills. Students will learn about logic and argumentation, refutation and credible research practices. This course will conclude with a tournament at the end of the week.

Age Range: Grades 6-12

Hours: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM PST
Skill Level: Beginner

Dates:

Session 1, July 11-22@10am-1pm PST (Mon- Fri only), $1200
Length: 3 hour
Tuition: $1200

Sample Weekly Schedule Example 1

Day 1: Argumentation and Logic – students will learn argument structure and how to identify the difference between arguments and opinions.
Day 2: Refutation and Rebuttals – students will focus on answering arguments made by others in the class through logic games and debates!
Day 3: Partnerships and Preparation – students will be assigned partners to work on cases or the upcoming tournament.
Day 4: Case Writing and Research – research is a vital part of making elective arguments. We will focus on developing “positions” for current events and controversial topics.
Day 5: Tournament
