Foundational Skills for Public Speaking & Debating

This workshop is for students new to public speaking and debating – including students from around the world – and provides a solid foundation for communication in academics, as well as potential participation in our event-specific workshops in subsequent summers.
By the end of their experience, students will be equipped with the tools they need to be effective future leaders, armed with skills to responsibly develop arguments, sway audiences, manage communication apprehension, research current topics, reach resistant audiences, and develop debate strategies for in-person and online audiences.

Summer 2023 Sessions
  • Vancouver school: July 3 – 7 and July 10 – 14
  • Richmond school: August 7 – 11 and August 14 – 18
  • Vancouver school: August 21 – 25 and August 28 – September 1

    In-person |Schedule A: 10:00am – 12:30pm
    In-person | Schedule B: 2:00pm – 4:30pm
Learning Objectives
  • Develop effective communication skills for academic and professional settings; understand the basics of debate structure and strategy.
  • Gain confidence in public speaking and debating.
  • Learn how to persuade and sway audience.
  • Overcome communication apprehension and nervousness when speaking in public.
  • Understand how to adapt communication style for in-person and audiences.

Level: Beginner

This is a beginner program, most participants are students entering the 4th grade, or older students who want to improve speaking skills and confidence.

One Session $1,000 (2 weeks per session)
