Public Forum I

Public Forum is a style of debate that focuses on providing students with great public speaking skills and research skills. This course will be an introduction to debate that allows students to learn the event and prepare before attending a tournament.

Age Range: Grades 6-12

Hours: 2-5pm PST
Skill Level: Intermediate

Dates:

Session 1, July 11-22 (Mon- Fri only)
Session 2, July 25th- August 5th (Mon- Fri only)
Session 3, All 4 weeks, Session 1 & 2 (Mon- Fri only)
Length 3 hours
Tuition 2 weeks $1200, 4 weeks $2400

Sample Weekly Schedule Example 1

Day 1: Argumentation and Assessments – students will participate in debate and logic games to assess their skill level.
Day 2: Types of impacts, and rebuttals – students will discuss different impacts and how to respond to them.
Day 3: Public Forum – students will be introduced to the structure oF PF
Day 4: Packet Introduction – students will learn about the upcoming topic with prewritten research and cases.
Day 5: Practice Tournament
Day 5: Framework Focus -students will discuss philosophy and how assumptions are formed and influential.
Day 6:Cross Introduction – Students will discuss how to ask questions effectively.
Day 7: Notetaking – students will learn the art oF Flowing.
Day 8: Polish and Practice – students will practice their arguments against their peers.
Day 9-10: Final Session Tournament!
