Ted Talks & Speech Writing

TED Talk & Speech Writing focuses on giving your student the skills necessary to deliver a dynamic public speech. This class will give students the opportunity to develop their speech writing and public speaking skills in a non-competitive environment. Students will learn from experienced teachers and public speaking experts while honing their own skills. This course is perfect for advanced and new students!

Age Range: Grades 4-6

Hours – 10:00 – 1:00 PM PST

Dates: Session 1 (July 11-22) Session 2 (July 25 – August 5)

Sample Weekly Schedule Example 1

Day 1: Introduction to claim-logic-impact argumentation structure, speaking volume, select a TED Talk.
Day 2: Work on hand gestures, learn about researching, start analyzing, and cutting down selected TED Talk.
Day 3: Finish cutting speech, work on eliminating filler words when speaking, memorization workshop.
Day 4: Work on pacing/speed, stage presence, finish memorizing.
Day 5: Ted Talk Showcase Competition. Day 5: Final showcase!
Day 6: Introduction to claim-logic-impact argumentation structure, speaking volume, brainstorm Ted Talk topics.
Day 7: Work on hand gestures, learn about researching,start writing speeches.
Day 8: Continue speech writing, work on eliminating filler words when speaking.
Day 9: Work on pacing/speed, stage presence, learn meaningful “walking” while speaking, practice speeches.
Day 10: Final showcase!
